    Cassette + Digital Album

The 7-track release from Oakland-based Russell E.L. Butler is their most melodic, improvised and varied, resulting in a whimsical vibe compared to other recent pieces, such as Opal Tapes, "God is Change," named one of the top 10 electronic albums of 2015 by NPR.

Tracks like "Telecommuter" and "Blowing Trees" explore striking slo-mo atmospherics, "Shock in a Cave" bounces via its staccato bass and beautiful electro-esq pads, while the title track channels "Baby Judy" by DBX as well as Paranoid London in its tongue-in-cheek vocal stylings and dance floor readiness.

The release has early support from The Fader, providing a track premiere of "Blowing Trees" on March 29th:

In was also given a co-sign by Decoder Magazine:

To complement Russell’s distinctive take on techno, we collaborated with visual artist Michael Ojeda on the album artwork. Michael’s visual style and longtime history with zine culture resulted in a powerful dystopian statement fitting of the album title.

As with most of our cassettes, mastering was done by Ben Versluis.

    BIO:
Russell E.L. Butler has been producing for a decade under their own name and their Black Jeans moniker. In 2014, they released the experimental hardware cassette, Constructions, and followed it up with “God is Change” on Opal Tapes, which was subsequently named one of the 10 best electronic albums of 2015 by NPR. Their vinyl debut will be released on Opal Tapes in May 2016. In addition to their own work, they are also part of Diem, a techno project with fellow Jacktone and Opal Tapes artist, Worker/parasite.
